of such facilities; accumulation and distribution

Its terms of reference are to determine
water research needs and priorities,
to promote and coordinate water research,
to fund research on a priority basis
and to promote the dissemination and application
of research findings.
With regard to membrane technology, research
and development is being
conducted on various membrane processes,
using mainly tubular and hollow fine fibre
configurations; modelling and fouling studies;
bioreactors and the use of membranes
in industrial wastewater treatment; and
for the provision of potable water from
brackish water or seawater or surface waters.
The Commission was largely responsible
for establishing a South African membrane
manufacturing industry.
