Desalination and Water Re-Use Technologies in Japan, Annual Reports.
This is an incorporated foundation, established in 1973, engaged in the following
activities: construction, operation and testing of pilot and/or demonstration
plants for wastewater re-use and desalination; consulting services on projects
for wastewater re-use and desalination; establishment of standards for
wastewater re-use and desalination facilities and certification of performance
of such facilities; accumulation and distribution of information on technologies
relating to wastewater re-use and desalination; promotion of international
cooperation in the field of wastewater re-use and desalination.

Water Research Commission

Its terms of reference are to determine water research needs and priorities,
to promote and coordinate water research, to fund research on a priority basis
and to promote the dissemination and application of research findings.
With regard to membrane technology, research and development is being
conducted on various membrane processes, using mainly tubular and hollow fine fibre
configurations; modelling and fouling studies; bioreactors and the use of membranes
in industrial wastewater treatment; and for the provision of potable water from
brackish water or seawater or surface waters. The Commission was largely responsible
for establishing a South African membrane manufacturing industry.
